It’s not a true mexican meal without Tortillas. Whether as the main star of the dish, as a side, and even as a utensil… A good fresh Tortilla will never fail!

In a bowl mix all the dry ingredients. 3 cups of Maseca, 1 cup all purpose flour, 1 ts salt and 1 ts baking powder.
We recomend using your clean hands for mixing.

Add 2 cups of water and mix. We will start with less water than needed and add more as you are mixing.
If your dough is dry or is still sticking to your fingers, add the third cup of water.
Mix in a circle motion to integrate everything.

When the dough is no longer sticking to your fingers, it’s ready! Grab a little piece of your dough and shape it into a ball with your hands.
Preheat the pan you will be using.

With the prensa
Cover the inside of your prensa with plastic, place the dough ball in the middle, and press.
Without the prensa
Put a plastic bag on top of one of your tortilla-shape item, place the dough ball centred, cover with the plastic bag. Press on top with the second tortilla-shape item, make sure to press with even pressure.

Remove your tortilla carefully from the plastic, and pass it to your pan.
Leave it there for about 45 seconds, you can flip it when the edges start looking cooked.
Flip each tortilla 4 times in total. And you´re done and ready to enjoy a fresh tortilla!

PS. If you get your tortilla to puff then you are Tita approved 😉
